Perfect tenses

We call 'perfect tense' a combination of:

• A form of the verb 'to have' (have, has, had, hasn't...)
• A past participple (been, talked, visited, written...).

Depending on the form of 'have' and the presence (or absence) of a gerund, you may find the following combinations:

1. Present perfect simple [present have + pp]
   
2. Present perfect continous [present have + pp + gerund]
   
3. Past perfect [past have + pp]
   
4. Past perfect continuous [past have + pp + gerund]
